Back on the grind and felt better than ever! After a couple days without playing, I’ve made a decision to myself that I really need to focus and start playing even on the days that I don’t feel like it (and for me, those days are quite often). Watching this new video series has given myself a boost of confidence again which is exactly what I needed.

Today I played 1k hands, the usual, and had a great day! Image

There was one bad regular who it literally felt like he was just handing me money at times. I obviously won’t go into names but he was running around 22/18 which are standard reg stats! But then he would make plays like this….

Hand#3370011451001271 – Calgary (6-Max) 11451 — $0.10/$0.20 NL Hold’em — 2013/06/27 – 11:08:51

No Grind on the Mind

So I know everyone is thinking “Tyler, where are the poker updates??”, but sadly, there has been none! Lately I have been really busy with work and just life in general. I’m going out of town July 2nd through the 8th for my cousins wedding so also won’t have much updates then but will have a trip report with pictures when I get back! (stay tuned)

Poker wise, I really believe I’m making progress for two main reasons. One, thinking about ranges clearly and understanding game flow has really made an impact on my play and it’s allowing me to bluff catch more especially when villains are repping so thinly for value. The final reason is actually learning to trust my read. For a long period of time I would think like this, “this guy is repping only 10 combos for value and can have maybe 30+ combos of bluffs…but it’s a huge raise size and not worth it for me to call or play back at”.

That thinking is obviously terrible so I’m glad I’ve turned the corner on that aspect of my game. Overall, learn to trust your reads and the range you assess for villains and go with it. Don’t worry about stack sizes or how big they make it, if it’s +ev then its +ev no matter the situation!

Title says it all…but for the past few days I’ve been trying a diet where basically you max out on protein for every meal. For example, my nutrition yesterday consisted of 3 eggs for breakfast, chicken breast and greek yogurt for lunch, whey protein shake before workout, whey protein shake after workout, and then finally a chicken breast + vegetables + brown rice for dinner. After all of this intake I was feeling pretty lousy! I decided to sleep it off and continue with it the next day eating the same exact things for breakfast and lunch until I finally had to call it off. For anyone reading this blog, I recommend to take the transition into any new diet slowly so you don’t feel like I did. Anyways back to the important stuff and enough rambling.

Played 1,000 hands of poker today and again was playing extremely good but also running pretty bad. Hand below for proof 🙂

One thing, and this is not a brag but something I’m extremely proud of, my mental toughness after this was amazing. My pulse rate did not increase at all and I was still able to play my best across all other tables so cheers to that!

Will be upping my volume next month to really get to shot taking 50nl which I target to do by mid month!

Grind Time!

Was able to play my first session today as it’s been quite some time since I’ve played. Think maybe like a week or two. Felt a bit rusty and as if my mental game was not quite there but still not bad! Wasn’t a whole lot of hands or spots to talk about so a short update today. I’m playing 20nl on Intertops Poker hoping to move up to 50nl soon by next month and I think I can attain that goal if I keep having decent days like today. Finished up 2bi’s with the graph to follow.

Only takes me about 1h 30min to complete that so not too bad of an hourly today 🙂  (not sustainable of course)

More graphs are on so don’t  miss them!

Day 1 of the Journey

So today’s the start of my journey! I think I’m going to have my overall format of the blog as talking about certain concepts, reviewing my play, mental thinking, and then of course how the forum is moving a long!

Last night I ended up watching a poker video about note taking by “blah234″ who grinds high stakes no limit holdem. When I first started out taking notes on players tendencies, they went a little something like this…”called 3bet oop with ATo, c/c 1/2 pot bet on flop Axxr, c/c 1/2 pot bet on 7 turn, c/c shove on blank river”. Now that note is extremely valuable, but who has time to read it when you have 8 other tables flashing up! It’s near impossible to do without timing out and affecting your thought processes across the tables.

Last night’s video discussed how to take “effective” notes using a strategy that we can actually use. For example, the above note I talked about could be written like this “3b merged range and vbet light”. Boom. In 6 words we described how he plays without talking about the whole hand! So if we were to see this note, we would know not to 3bet junk like suited connectors (sc’s) and other small suited stuff, leaning our range strictly towards value and add in QJ+, 99+ as a default.

Understand the importance of efficient note taking and it will increase your winrate by a huge margin!

Lets Get Started!

Wat’s up guys! My name is Tyler Norgord and I’m glad to finally get a blog up and get this party started! A little background information so everyone can feel connected to me and hopefully I will retain your attention long enough to carry on reading. I just finished 3 years at a junior college and will be heading off to Cal St LA in the upcoming fall semester. Work part-time at Abercombie and Fitch and as a poker player.

Played poker for about 3 years now with my highest limit being 100nl, which stands for a $100 buy in at No Limit Holdem. Due to the legal issues of online poker it’s been hard to maintain a bankroll on one site due to always having to switch, which leads to getting crushed by vig and it’s not good for the bankroll! So currently where do you stand Tyler some of you might ask? Well, I still play online poker at Intertops, (a US friendly site), but also I am an administrator of I play 20nl and am trying to get back up to 50nl to be able to earn around $1,000 a month to save and also for spending money.

So what is the point of this blog and why should I follow? If you have even the SLIGHTEST bit of interest in poker, that is one reason as I promise you will find some laughs in here but more importantly I can improve your game. I’m going to be uploading videos of myself playing online for strategy purposes along with talking with other great players during the process. This is going to be a great journey and I hope everyone stays a long for the ride! Even if it does get bumpy but who doesn’t like a little turbulence 🙂
